(Neolithic Period):

The jump to the Present Time

In paleontological time scale, the passage from Stone Age to Modern Times has happened within the twinkle of an eye. It has been accompanied by a dramatic increase of the world population. While it did not exceed a few million people during the Paleolithic Area, it comprised 5 millions at the beginning of the Neolithic Period, rose to 170 millions at the time of Christ, 600 millions at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution three hundred years ago, to reach now the number of 8'000 millions.

This has been made possible through the improvement of food supply during the Neolithic and Industrial Revolutions. The Neolithic has brought agriculture and the Industrial Time chemical fertilizers and modern breeding techniques. Medical findings and care of health have also played a role.
