The first monuments of mankind
The Neolithic (New Stone Age) shift from hunting-gathering to agriculture happened in Europe around 8000 years B. C. The earliest monuments mankind has erected were neither the iconic stone arrangements of Stonehenge nor the Egyptian pyramids. As early as 5000 years B. C., huge concentric palisades have been built by Neolitic men, the role of which still remains unknown. They are considered to be the earliest sun observatory currently known in the world. Interpretations of the ring suggest that European Neolithic and Bronze Age people measured the heavens far earlier and more accurately than historians have thought.
We show here various scenes of Neolithic men such as harvesting and house-building. Note that all required materials are being taken from surrounding nature. In this video simulation, a funeral ceremony is held within the area of the circular palisades.
